Jean Carberry leads the Digital Division of the Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment. She is responsible for digital policy and programmes including Ireland’s National Artificial Intelligence strategy, and the enterprise pillar of Ireland’s National Digital Strategy.
Jean has led on negotiation and implementation of EU digital regulations including the EU AI Act, the Digital Services Act, and the Data Act. Jean is Ireland’s representative on the EU AI Board and is leading on the establishment of a comprehensive AI governance framework in Ireland, including creation of a new AI regulatory body, which will sit at the centre of the AI market surveillance regime in Ireland.
Before she joined the civil service, Jean worked for AXA, Standard & Poor’s and Ernst & Young. Jean is a Chartered Accountant and has an MBA in Finance from Fordham University in New York, USA.
